India’s fitness trainer Shankar Basu has reportedly taken a break from the ODI series against England. He will also miss the following one-off Test against Bangladesh opting to take a quick break from international cricket. In recent times, Basu has come under a considerable amount of flak in recent times.

In spite of citing personal reasons for his omission from the side, some of Basu’s methods have come under fire reportedly by some players within the team. The Indian team ahs also suffered a plethora of injuries in recent times, thus not allowing the management to give the appropriate breaks to the players with alternating Test and One-Day matches being played.

While there are those in the side like Virat Kohli who certainly do enjoy their fitness routines, many others have reportedly not really enjoyed the fitness sessions thrust on them by Basu. However, in spite of all this, an official affiliated with the BCCI went on to state that Basu would indeed return after his time away.

“The BCCI would like to inform that Team India strength & conditioning trainer Mr. Shankar Basu has opted for a break from the Paytm ODI Trophy – 2017, Paytm T20I Trophy – 2017 against England and one off Paytm Test match to be played against Bangladesh in February 2017 for personal reasons,” the Cricket Board said in a statement.

However, deputizing for Basu during his absence will be Anand Date, someone who has been appointed with rather high recommendations. “Mr. Anand Date has been appointed the strength & conditioning trainer of the Indian team for these series,” it added.

India will take on England in the first ODI on the 13th of January in Pune following the conclusion of the two practice matches.
