West Indies bowling spearhead, Shannon Gabriel, bowled his heart out on the day 3 play of the second Test against England. Gabriel, who has arguably been the most successful bowler for team West Indies in the recent past, came up with a peach of a delivery to get rid of opener Mark Stoneman on the day. The kind of performances team West Indies has been coming up with in the recent past, nobody gave them a sniff coming into the Headingley Test.
However, with the way they have performed thus far, they could well be on course for a series-leveling effort. After having bundled out the hosts for a reasonably small total of 258 in the first innings, West Indies extended their control on the game with a total of 427 in their first innings.
Coming into the second innings, England looked in some spot of bother with 81/2 to the score line. Their opener, Mark Stoneman, looked good though. He settled at the crease and was seeing the ball well enough. Stoneman, undoubtedly, was under some serious pressure to score in this game.
With the Ashes coming up, the race for the opener’s berth in the English side has already intensified. Keaton Jennings failed to deliver in the South Africa series and that paved the way for Mark Stoneman. After having failed in his debut Test and the first innings of this ongoing game, Stoneman finally registered his maiden Test fifty. However, he could not add more to his total after that.
Well, there was nothing that he could have done about it. He was undone by a brilliant unplayable ball by Shannon Gabriel. It was in the 39th over of the innings when Gabriel bowled a length delivery that just shaped enough to square up Stoneman. The stumps went for a toss and Windies had bagged their third wicket on the day.
