Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, the prime suspects in the ongoing spot-fixing scandal involving the Pakistan Super League have reportedly pleaded guilty and could very well face bans in and around six years all the way down to life bans as well. This would be a shame given the fact that the duo have been quite decent in the recent international cricketing scene in the recent past. Shahryar Khan, the chairman of the PCB has also gone ahead and condemned the incident, especially given the fact that there was an anti-corruption lecture on the same day.
“All the players were given anti-corruption lecture on the same day the PSL started, so they falling in the trap is disappointing,” Shararyar said. “No one should think that he can get away with a two or three-year punishment. We want a deterrent so that it will set an example.”
“The PCB anti-corruption code’s clause on not reporting an approach carries a ban ranging from six months to a life ban based on circumstantial evidence,” said sources within the Pakistan board.
A source went on to add that both players had confessed that they had indeed failed to report the same to the authorities. In fact, Sharjeel Khan was also given a colored bat grip to ensure that he was on the same page as the ‘mafia’.
“Both the players have confessed to the approach and that they failed to report it to authorities,” the sources added. “Both were on the radar of the PCB’s security officers and were also told about the evidences against them during a recorded investigation. The International Cricket Council premises were used for interrogation but the ICC was not involved in investigation as this is a domestic matter.”
“The suspicious man gave the player (Sharjeel) a coloured grip to show the mafia that he was “in” for betting and needed to play dot balls,” said sources.
