Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif likely to face life ban
"In the case of Sharjeel concluding written arguments have been submitted to the tribunal," a source quoted.
Hard hitting Pakistan opening batsman Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif are likely to face a life ban for their alleged involvement in the spot fixing scandal. The two players were alleged to have been deeply knit in the spot fixing web during the 2017 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). A couple of days after the commencement of the second edition of the T20 league in February this year, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sensed some malpractice surfacing the tournament structure.
Soon, the news broke out about the involvement of certain players in the spot fixing. Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were summoned back to Pakistan with an urgent notice for further investigation. Later, the names of other cricketers like Mohammad Irfan also surfaced the media.
However, after the trials, it was found out that Irfan did not concede in to the demands of the bookies and hence was allowed to participate in the remainder of the tournament. On the contrary, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif did not get to play the tournament. Now, as per the recent reports in brecorder.com, both players are likely to face life bans. The sources in the legal department of the PCB have suggested the board to do so.
“We have requested the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Tribunal probing into the spot fixing scandal to impose a life ban on them (Sharjeel and Khalid),” a source quoted.
Case completed
The source further noted that the case is done and dusted from the side of the lawyers. It is now up to the board and the council members to take the final call in this regard. He further added that they hope that the decision will be out soon.
“In the case of Sharjeel concluding written arguments have been submitted to the tribunal. As far as PCB lawyers are concerned we have completed the case and now it is upto the tribunal to announce the verdict and we are expecting that verdict will come shortly. We hope that the tribunal will announce the verdict soon as there is nothing left to be further done in the case,” the source added further.
