The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be organizing a dinner function in order to honour the current chairman of the ICC Shashank Manohar. The latter took over the reins of the BCCI presidency following the untimely death of Jagmohan Dalmiya. However, after just seven months in the role, Manohar resigned from his position to become the first independently elected chief of the ICC.
The Nagpur-based lawyer’s resignation has seen the BCCI seen many enter the rat race to become the president of the board. Anurag Thakur, the current secretary of the board has been heavily tipped to succeed Manohar. IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla and Ajay Shrike are also in contention for the role. The nomination for the new president, supported by at least one unit from the BCCI’s East Zone associations, has to be filed by tomorrow evening.
However, in order to become the president, Anurag Thakur will have to give up the SGM position, the role he is serving at the moment.

”A dinner function has been organised in his honour as all the members will be present here for the SGM (on May 22),” said a BCCI source today.
“The BCCI welcomes the unopposed election of Mr. Shashank Manohar as the Chairman of the ICC.”
BCCI Secretary Mr. Anurag Thakur said: “Mr. Shashank Manohar’s unanimous, unopposed election is a matter of pride for India. With his vast administrative experience, he will provide leadership to the ICC to strengthen the position of cricket at the global level. The BCCI looks forward to working closely with the ICC for developing cricket.”
