Ravi Shastri has reportedly put a condition before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) while submitting his application for the head coach’s post. The former Team India director has told the BCCI that the support staff under him should be retained should he be selected for the job.
The race for India’s head coach position is currently hot. Ravi Shastri faces tough competition from the likes of Sandeep Patil and Venkatesh Prasad for the top position.
However, out of the three candidates, Shastri appears to be the front runner for the job and may get appointed as the team coach.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Shastri, who was the team director earlier, has list of personnel he has worked with over the 18 months and has insisted to retain six of his former assistants.
Shastri wants to retain Bharat Arun (bowling coach), Sanjay Bangar (batting coach), R. Sridhar (fielding coach), Patrick Farhat (physiologist), Sankar Basu (trainer) and Raghu (team assistant).
The BCCI has made it clear that the new head coach will have a free hand in picking his assistants. Shastri did not confirm the news but told a news agency on Monday that whatever is needed by the BCCI has been submitted.
“Whatever is required by the BCCI, I have provided them. If you ask me whether I am confident or not, all I can say is that my job was to apply for the post and I have done that. I cannot comment on anything else.”
