The Kings XI Punjab, after losing their first game, suffered another setback after their star batsman Shaun Marsh was admitted to hospital due to food poisoning on 11 April. The Australian left-hander took part in the training session of the team on Sunday but was bogged down with illness on the next morning.

An official from the Punjab-based franchise said there are no major concerns with Marsh’s condition and the 32-year-old was admitted as a necessary precaution. Incidentally, his teammates Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Abbott have also suffered from food poisoning this week. Fortunately, both cricketers have recovered in time.

An official from the Punjab-based franchise said there are no major concerns with Marsh’s condition and the 32-year-old was admitted as a necessary precaution. Marsh was replaced by Marcus Stoinis in the opening against Gujarat Lions where they were comprehensively beaten by IPL debutants the Gujarat Lions.

The Punjab franchise got off to a good start but faltered in the middle overs. The effect of Marsh’s absence was clearly visible in the team’s performance. After wobbling in the middle overs due to Dwayne Bravo’s superb spell, they could manage only 161 runs on a good batting pitch at Mohali. His presence would have made a difference in the final team total.

The 32-year-old left-handed batsman has been a prolific run-getter for the Punjab side. He has been an instrumental part of the team from the first season of the IPL and has scored 2054 runs in 56 matches with an average of 41.91 and a strike-rate of 133.55.

David Miller, the Punjab side skipper, though was optimistic and said that they will finish fare better in upcoming games. Kings XI Punjab faces Delhi Daredevils in their next match on 15 April.
