Australian batsman Shaun Marsh feels that the Kings XI Punjab can still make it to the top four despite losing their game yesterday against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The defending champions went out to bat first in the match and put up a mammoth score of 207 on the board.
Chasing the huge target, Preity Zinta’s men tried hard to reach the total but fell short by 26 runs in the end. Shaun Marsh was the lone warrior for the Kings XI Punjab team as he scored a brilliant 50-ball 84. The Aussie batter hit 14 fours and 2 sixes en route to his total but all the effort went in vain as his franchise could not have the last laugh.
However, Marsh praised the Sunrisers franchise for outclassing them in all departments last night. “Full credit goes to the Sunrisers. They played well and outplayed us in all three facets of the game. We were not on tonight”
The left-hander said that they have been chasing down targets well this season and blamed the loss of three quick wickets early in the innings for the loss.
“We have chased really well in this tournament. But we didn’t get off to the start we were hoping for and lost three quick wickets inside six overs.”
But the batsman looked confident of making it to the playoffs and said that the boys are working hard to achieve that. Kings XI Punjab has never won the Indian Premier League before and would look to lift the trophy for the first time. Now with the inclusion of players like Martin Guptill and Darren Sammy in their ranks they look a formidable outfit capable of lifting the titles this year.
“We can pull ourselves back in the race and keep our hopes alive for the playoffs…The guys are training hard and we can get on a bit of a roll from Sunday (against Delhi Daredevils)”
