Shaun Marsh feels he still has a lot to offer in Test and ODI cricket
Australian southpaw Shaun Marsh who is fit and raring to go insisted that he still has plenty to offer in Test and ODI cricket but said he won’t put too much pressure on himself to achieve the feat. Marsh who recuperated from a broken finger is expected to play for the Perth Scorchers in today’s BBL match against the Sydney Sixers at SCG. Though Marsh may not feature in the last Test against Pakistan at SCG, he will be in definite contention for the four-match Test series in India starting from February.
Former Aussie captain and analyst of the game Ian Chappell feels Marsh is too injury prone and shouldn’t be considered for Test selection yet again. Despite age being not by his side, Marsh is adamant that he is not done yet and still has plenty to offer to Australian cricket. “I still feel fairly young in cricket terms. I still feel like I’ve got a lot to offer at the top level,” Marsh was quoted as saying by The Australia.
“I’m just looking forward to getting out there tomorrow for the Scorchers, trying to score some runs in the next couple of games, and see where it takes me.
“I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself. I’m going to go out there and have a bit of fun.” Marsh has been suffering from soft tissue injuries throughout his career but it has been a broken finger which has kept him out of action for the last four months. Marsh dislocated the finger while fielding in an ODI match against Sri Lanka in August. He again broke his finger while fielding in the 1st Test against South Africa at the WACA which forced him to miss the rest of the series.
Despite scoring runs consistently in his last few matches, Marsh’s return to the Test squad might well be hampered after the selectors decided to go with a bunch of newcomers. Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb have seized their opportunity with both hands but Nic Maddinson has failed to impress and Marsh might return in his place. He had earlier aimed to be fit for the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan but said he was glad to give his finger that extra bit of time to recover.
“Because it was a re-break, they thought they’d give it a bit longer this time,” Marsh said.
“I was pretty eager to try to get out there as early as possible. But the six weeks is probably a good idea. Touch wood it’s all behind me now.
“It’s feeling really good. I started facing bowlers last week and I caught a few balls. I had no issues,” the left-hander concluded.
