Shaun Marsh hints at international retirement after 'no phone calls' from Australian selectors for India Test series
The kangaroos last enjoyed his services against India in January 2019.
After the Australia top-order batsmen Will Pucovski and David Warner were ruled out from the first Test against India due to injuries, rumor mills were set ablaze. It was expected that the swashbuckler Shaun Marsh is set to make his comeback into the national team. The kangaroos last enjoyed his services against India in January 2019. The injury-marred career was believed to fill the void created by the exit of the two heavyweights.
In a recent interview, the veteran talisman has spoken at length about the matter and has refuted any calls made by the selectors for his inclusion in the Test cricket. Moreover, he also confidently pointed out that he wasn’t expecting any phone calls as well.
There were certainly no phone calls: Shaun Marsh
“There were certainly no phone calls,” Marsh was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “I probably wasn’t expecting one either, to be honest. There were a few funny videos being thrown around. I got a few from a few of my mates back home, which were quite funny.”
Currently, he is plying his trade for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. Hence, he is expected to show some pinch-hitting in the battle of sixes.
“But there were certainly no phone calls from anyone. I’m purely focused on playing well down here for the [Melbourne] Renegades [in the BBL].” Marsh clarifies to the media outlet.
Albeit, the veteran batsman has not retired but strongly feels that his door for revival in International cricket is apparently closed. However, he does not have any regrets which speak volumes about his mental strength and practical mindedness.
“I think so, yeah,” he said. “I’m 37 now. I haven’t played for a few years in Test cricket. As I said, I wasn’t expecting a phone call and I’m pretty comfortable with where I’m at.”
Marsh also elaborated on his future plans very emphatically. He is set to get back to Western Australia after the end of the T20 extravaganza.
“[I’m] trying to play as well as I can for the Renegades for the next six weeks and getting back to WA after that and finishing off the Shield season. I guess that’s where it’s at for me at the moment.” He signed off.
