Shaun Tait picks his best bowler in the world, predicts the leading run scorer of World Cup
He shared his opinions on CWC's official Instagram page.
ICC Cricket World Cup, which is set to be played in England and Wales, reached the Australian shores on Monday (January 14) as a part of its extensive World Tour. The tour began its journey in Dubai in August last year. Unlike the previous occasions, the ongoing tour of the trophy is the most extensive one. The coveted trophy is scheduled to travel across five continents, 21 countries and over 60 cities. Its latest stop is Adelaide. Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait played host as the glittering trophy was unveiled.
Tait was the part of the Australian team that won the World Cup in 2007. Regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the history of cricket, Tait’s career was marred by injuries. His menacing pace and deadly yorkers were nothing less than a nightmare for the batsmen. The right-arm pacer, who was also part of Australia’s 2011 World Cup squad, played 3 Tests, 35 ODIs and 21 T20Is. The tearaway pacer finished his career with 5 Test wickets, 62 ODI wickets and 28 T20I wickets.
And when he came to unveil the trophy, the ICC made sure to give the fans an opportunity to interact with him. He came live on Cricket World Cup’s official Instagram page and answered quite a few interesting questions. On the very expected lines, the fans asked him about his pick on the best bowlers and batsmen of this generation. One of the questions was – ‘Who is the best bowler in the world right now’.
In reply, Tait picked India speedster Jasprit Bumrah and Rashid Khan. Well, one can not argue much about Tait’s selection. Both Bumrah and Rashid have been quite a nightmare for the batsmen across formats. Rashid finished 2018 as the highest wicket-taker in ODIs while Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker in India’s historic Test series win against Australia earlier this month.

Another interesting question asked to Tait was – ‘Who will be the highest scorer in the upcoming World Cup in England’? Tait was quick to answer the question, picking India opener Rohit Sharma and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. Rohit is definitely one of the most sought after cricketers in the world right now while Williamson is equally competent although he lacks the hitting abilities of Rohit.
Meanwhile, the next World Cup will get underway on May 30 with hosts England taking on South Africa in the tournament opener.
