Saurashtra’s Sheldon Jackson might not get the joy of playing for the Indian team anytime soon, but the veteran wicketkeeper-batter has got a reason to celebrate in his personal life he and as his wife welcomed a baby boy. The 35-year-old shared a picture of his newly born child in a post on Twitter on Tuesday (12th July).

Jackson made his debut in first-class in 2011 and since then has been one of the most prolific batters in the domestic circuit with 5947 runs at an impressive average of 50.39 along with 19 centuries in just 79 outings. The Saurashtra man had a brilliant output in this year’s Ranji Trophy as well, scoring 313 runs at an incredible average of 78.25 in just three matches.

Unfortunately, he has not been able to replicate the same form for IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring a meager 61 runs in nine outings for the Kolkata-based franchise. Kolkata’s chopping and changing haven’t helped his cause either, as he has had to play in several positions for the team, including opening the batting.

The KKR man welcomed his second child on Tuesday and shared a picture of him holding the baby on Twitter, which read, “Blessed with a boy❤️😇.”

KKR also congratulated their wicketkeeper-batter on the birth of his child and wrote, “Congratulations @ShelJackson27 on welcoming a baby boy, Welcome to the club, little Knight.”

‘The number of runs and the rate at which I got them, I don’t think many in the country have’, Jackson spoke about his domestic stint

The veteran cricketer had earlier criticized the selectors for overlooking his domestic form and revealed that one of them even told him that he was too old to play for the Indian team as he was 30+ at the time. He highlighted his impressive numbers in the domestic arena, but even after performing so well and working hard for the team, he has never been considered for a national call-up.

“The number of runs and the rate at which I got them, I don’t think many in the country have. There has been no communication (on why I was not picked). But once I asked someone (around 2018-19 or 2019-20) what more I need to do, I was told I am old. They told me that above 30, we are not picking anyone. But ultimately, after a year, they picked someone who was around 32-33,” Jackson had said earlier.
