Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar was recently all over the internet for his on-air remarks about Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. During the match between RCB and KXIP in the on-going IPL 2020, Gavaskar’s jibe at the couple was misinterpreted by many fans, leading to an outburst on social media.
The legendary batsman and renowned commentator was bashed by fans for allegedly passing a sexist remark on Anushka. Gavaskar had referred to the star couple playing cricket in their apartment during the lockdown. However, misquoting his few words, fans lambasted him across the internet.
It eventually turned into a huge controversy after Anushka also reacted over his comments by sharing an Instagram story. The Bollywood actress and Kohli’s better half asked Gavaskar the reason behind dragging her name into a cricket match.
A day after the incident, Gavaskar doused the entire controversy by clarifying his on-air statement. “I did not make any sexist comment. I just said Virat only got chance to practice on Anushka’s bowling,” Gavaskar said in his defence.

Meanwhile, former Saurashtra batsman Sheldon Jackson was also involved in a heated exchange on Twitter following his tweet for Gavaskar. Jackson took it to Twitter to heap praise on Gavaskar’s commentary during the recent IPL 2020 game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals.
“Sunil Gavaskar sir’s commentary is just Gold, so much to learn,” wrote Jackson. He, however, was trolled by one of his followers. The follower wrote– “Need his blessings if you want to be part of Team India.”
