Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has been in the news in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Unfortunately, his simple statement on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma was twisted on social media and he had to bore the brunt of it. Anushka also lashed out at him for dragging her name while talking about her husband’s game.
Gavaskar had come out and give a clarification for the same as well. This time around, he hasn’t done anything but Sheldon Jackson, Saurashtra cricketer, has stood up for him after a Twitter user mocked the legendary cricketer for his height after watching him on television during the pre-match show ahead of the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).
Sunil Gavaskar was standing between former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen and the anchor Neroli Meadows. This is when the Twitter user mocked him for his height. “Sunil Gavaskar looking so small,” the tweet read only to be deleted later after Sheldon Jackson slammed him for the same.
Here’s the tweet:
Spread a little positivity, says Sheldon Jackson
He came across the tweet and the cricketer didn’t hold himself back to slam the fan. Jackson threw light on what Sunil Gavaskar has done throughout his career. At the same time, Jackson also advised the fan to spread some positivity and refrain from spreading negativity.
“may be in heigh, but look what he has done and achieved for the country, not many tall men could achieve. you are a cricket fan as of what I learn and see from your tweet, there’s already a lot of negativity, try to spread a little positivity please,” Jackson wrote in his response.
As far as Sunil Gavaskar’s international career is concerned, he is definitely a legend. He played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India scoring a whopping 10122 and 3092 runs respectively in the two formats. Gavaskar also scored 34 tons in the longest format of the game and is still regarded as one of the best players India have ever produced.
