The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hosting the remaining matches of the 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which started on February 20 earlier this year but was stopped in the middle after the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Karachi Kings, led by Imad Wasim, were up against Multan Sultans on November 14 in the 1st Qualifier of the tournament.
However, more than the match, what made the headlines were the gloves of the West Indies batsman Sherfane Rutherford. Batting first, Sultans had racked up a target of 141 in their 20 overs on the back of 40 runs off 31 deliveries by Ravi Bopara. In reply, Karachi had a decent start as Babar Azam smashed a half-century. In the 17th over, Rutherford came on the field after Chadwick Walton lost his wicket to Sohail Tanvir and the team was reeling at 119/5.
Meanwhile, the Caribbean batting all-rounder came on the field wearing the gloves on the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) which immediately caught the attention of the viewers. Sherfane was a part of the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) but didn’t feature in a single game for MI.
Sherfane Rutherford arrives in Pakistan wearing an MI jersey
As the pictures of Rutherford wearing the MI gloves went viral on social media, the Twitterati brutally roasted the franchise Karachi Kings for not being able to provide the basic cricket kit like gloves to their players. This was not the first time that something like that happened with the PSL.
A few days back, Rutherford had landed from UAE to Pakistan to take part in PSL. Welcoming their player, the official Twitter handle of the Karachi franchise had shared the pic of the all-rounder from the airport. However, there also he was spotted wearing the MI jersey. The Caribbean batsman has joined Karachi Kings (KK) as a replacement for Chris Jordan, who has pulled out due to international fixtures.

As far as the match is concerned, Rutherford couldn’t contribute for his team as he lost his wicket to Imran Tahir while playing at 1 (3). Despite a good start by the opposition, Multan bowlers managed to restrict Karachi to 141 in 20 overs and the match went into the Super Over. Rutherford had smashed 11 runs in Super Over, which helped Karachi Kings in booking a berth in the final of the league.
