Shikhar Dhawan confident about MS Dhoni timing his retirement right
Shikhar said that Dhoni has taken several important decisions for the team in the past.
Over the years, MS Dhoni has been at the helm when it involved some of the most important decisions about Indian cricket. More often than not, his decision-making skills were bang on target. Be it for him or for the team, Dhoni is someone who always looks at the big picture. This attribute has helped him a great deal in his 15-year career. Now, opener Shikhar Dhawan feels that this same ability will be him while making his retirement call as well.
In a television show, the left-hander said that Dhoni understands when he should retire. He added that this should completely be his decision and mentioned that the wicketkeeper-batsman will make the call when the time comes.
“Dhoni has been playing for so long, I feel he understands when he should retire. This should be his decision. He has taken very important decisions so far for India in his career and I’m sure he will make the call when the time comes,” Dhawan said on TV show Aap Ki Adalat.
Shikhar Dhawan talks about MS Dhoni’s biggest quality
Describing the quality of a big leader, Shikhar said that MSD knows the potential of every player. He even noted that the Ranchi cricketer knows how much a player should be backed and added that Dhoni understands how to make a champion out of a player.
“That’s the quality of a big leader. He knows the potential of every player and knows to what extent a player should be backed. He knows how to make a champion out of a player. India’s success during his captaincy justifies this. His (Dhoni’s) control is his biggest quality.”
Shikhar said that the 38-year-old has been quite successful as the captain of the side. He mentioned that the team is grateful to him and respects him a lot. The opener credited Dhoni for always being by the side of Virat Kohli and added it is good to see the current skipper showing his gratitude towards the former.
“Dhoni bhai has been quite successful as the captain of the side. We are all very grateful to him and we respect him a lot, and the same goes for Virat,” he said. “When Virat was young, he guided him immensely. Even when he became the captain, Dhoni bhai was always there to help him. This is the quality of a leader. It’s good to see that Virat is showing his gratitude to him now.”
Rishabh Pant is very talented and will have a long career for India
Shikhar Dhawan also spoke about Rishabh Pant who is under fire at the moment. He said that he will have a long career for India and informed that the youngster is working hard. Dhawan said that they need to back good players.
“Rishabh is very talented and I am sure he will have a long career for India. He is trying hard. There are situations when you don’t score, but then you learn from them. It happens with everyone and I’m sure he will learn from it,” Dhawan said. “He (Pant) is a good player and we need to back good players. Even I went through rough patches in my life, and I still do. It is part and parcel of this game.”
