Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan didn’t take long to get going in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka. He joined the squad after right-hand batsman Murali Vijay was ruled out of the series, following a wrist injury. He then replaced KL Rahul, who was down with viral fever. The left-hander registered a massive 190 in the first innings of the first Test after getting a life while batting at 31.
Dhawan made the most of it and added 171 runs to his kitty, to assist India to a 3-0 series whitewash in foreign soil. He was well supported by the other batsmen throughout the series, especially his opening partner KL Rahul and middle-order batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane.
Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged the man of the series, and the excited opener went to the podium in an unusual fashion. He danced his way to collect the trophy. The Delhi man is an entertainer on the field and an even bigger asset off it. The Indian must be pleased with the way they played in Sri Lanka. Skipper Virat Kohli said that he doesn’t want to look too much into the future but is happy with the way things have gone so far for his team.
He also said that all-rounder Hardik Pandya is the find of the series, especially the way he has shaped up in the recently concluded series. Pandya scored a brisk half-century in his debut game and went on to score his maiden Test ton in the final match of the Test series. He also did pretty well with the ball, breaking partnerships and putting a hold at the batsmen.
India will now play the ODI series followed by the one-off T20I. Kohli would surely like to continue the winning run going into the limited overs series and he will want his team to repeat the heroics.
