Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan had fans worried when he headed straight to the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals soon after landing at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The team travelled from Cuttack the venue for the second ODI soon after the end of the match to the city of joy where they are scheduled to play the final ODI of the series. Today, when the team was out training in the optional session ahead of the match he was seen batting in the nets.
The time he spent practicing certainly suggests there is no issues with his fitness and he will be available for selection in the Kolkata ODI. A team official when asked about Dhawan’s fitness told the media “He’s perfectly fine.” But despite that there is certainly a chance that Virat Kohli and the team management might opt for Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane.
Dhawan hasn’t been able to repay the faith shown in him by the selectors with a recall; he failed to give the team desired start in both the ODIs. While he managed a 10-ball 1 when the team was out chasing 351 in Pune all he contributed while batting first at Cuttack was 11. His partner KL Rahul hasn’t been in the best of touch either and that has hurt the team and has put additional pressure on Virat Kohli who bats at No.3 and others since the matches have been high scoring affairs.
The doctors at the hospital maintained silence on the reason why he was there and didn’t give a clear picture on whether he had suffered an injury or was ill. “We cannot confirm the extent of his injury or whether it is just a routine check up right now. But he was here,” a hospital representative had told the media.
