Shikhar Dhawan gifts a personal belonging to a Sri Lankan fan
Shikhar Dhawan was in great form throughout the tour and helped India win matches single-handedly.
Indian cricketers are immensely popular all over the world as every player has a huge fan base wherever they travel. Kohli too, after the ODI series, praised the Sri Lankan fans for giving them the space required while in the country and also hailed them for their support. To make it a memorable meeting for a die-hard fan opener Shikhar Dhawan gifted his sunglasses to the fan named Mohammed Nilam after one of the ODIs.
An image of Dhawan gifting his sunglasses to the fan after the game has gone viral. The gesture from the swashbuckling left-hander really deserves a special applause. The fan seemed to be very happy about it and surely the respect for Dhawan must have increased manifolds amongst the fans.
Shikhar Dhawan in Sri Lanka
He enjoyed his time in Sri Lanka a lot with the bat. The southpaw was one of the mainstays for India in Tests with 358 runs in 3 matches at an amazing average of 89.50. Very few would have forgotten his magnificent knock of 190 at more than run a ball when he tormented the Sri Lankan bowlers. He was one of the main reasons India were scoring the mammoth scores in the Tests.
After helping the team clean sweep the Test series 3-0, Dhawan continued his rich vein of form in ODIs as well. He started the series with a scintillating century which helped the visitors chase down 216 with more than 21 overs to spare. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 132 off just 90 deliveries and his knock was studded with 20 fours and 3 colossal maximums. He backed up that performance with a century partnership with Rohit Sharma in the next game only to be dismissed on 49. But unfortunately, Sri Lankan found a way to scalp him early for the next couple of matches.
Shikhar had to depart for India mid tour to be with his ailing mother and hence missed the final ODI and the only T20I against the hosts. Though, India did manage to win both as they completed a clean sweep across all formats. Dhawan played an integral role with his aggressive batting and he would love to continue in the same vein for the upcoming Australia series as well.
