Ahead of the forthcoming ODI series against Australia, India opener Shikhar Dhawan has unveiled the new jersey for the Men in Blue. India are in Australia for a full-fledged tour. Both the teams will play three ODIs, three T20Is before taking on each other in the much-anticipated four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series.

The upcoming ODI series will mark the resumption of international cricket for Team India. Virat Kohli & Co. have not played any game since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. And the Men in Blue will mark the occasion by wearing a new jersey. Shikhar Dhawan took to Twitter to post a selfie of himself in the new kit.

The new jersey has a darker shade of blue than more recent national team jerseys. In fact, the jersey is drawing comparison with the 1992 World Cup. The jersey also sports the name of the BCCI’s new kit sponsors – MPL Sports. Going by the reaction on social media, one can say that the fans are already in love with the retro themed Team India jersey.

“New jersey, renewed motivation. Ready to go,” wrote Dhawan while posting the photo in the new kit.

Meanwhile, Australia will sport new jersey too in the upcoming T20 series against India. Cricket Australia had unveiled the jersey earlier this month. The hosts will wear specially-designed Indigenous shirts in the upcoming T20I series, a move aimed at recognizing and encouraging the Indigenous Australians’ role in the sport.

Comeback for Shikhar Dhawan:

The upcoming series will mark the return of Shikhar Dhawan in international cricket. The left-handed batsman has not played a single game for Team India since the ODI series against Australia at home in January this year. He missed the tour of New Zealand due to a shoulder injury. Dhawan was a part of the side for the home ODI series against South Africa in March but the series was postponed in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Dhawan has gone to Australia after a highly successful campaign in IPL 2020. With an impressive 618 runs, he finished the competition as the second highest run-scorer and helped Delhi Capitals make it to the final. India would be hoping that Dhawan continues his stellar IPL form against Australia.
