Shikhar Dhawan headed straight to the hospital after landing in Kolkata
All seems to be not well with India opener Shikhar Dhawan as he went straight to the hospital after landing in Kolkata where Team India are scheduled to play England in the final ODI of the series on January 22, Sunday. The Indian team won the second ODI in Cuttack last night by a close 15 runs margin and flew to the city of joy immediately after.
Reports by IANS suggest Dhawan took off from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and instead of travelling with the rest of the team to the hotel directly headed the Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals. An official from the hospital though admitted that the Indian cricketer was indeed there but didn’t confirm the reason for his visit since the team management must have requested secrecy. “We cannot confirm the extent of his injury or whether it is just a routine check up right now. But he was here,” the official said.
The left-hander hasn’t quite been in the best of forms in the recent season and missed out the home series against New Zealand due to an injury and also the Test series against England after injuring his thumb during practice. He wasn’t considered for the initial few Tests against England but after KL Rahul wasn’t available he was picked in the team only to be replaced by his Delhi teammate Gautam Gambhir.
In the ongoing series, Dhawan has struggled to get going, in the ongoing series and while managed just 1 run in the first ODI at Pune. He was dismissed after playing some attractive shots went for an expansive drive against Chris Woakes who was bowling brilliantly at Cuttack. It took the inside edge from his bat and crashed the timber.

There was a high possibility that the team would opt for Ajinkya Rahane in the last match and sit Dhawan out since the latter showed good form in the second warm-up match and scored 91 runs. Clear details of his fitness are yet awaited.
