The Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is in the form of his life. The left-hander has scored 3 centuries so far in the ongoing Sri Lankan tour. He had registered two of them in the Test series- 190 in the 1st Test at Galle and 119 in the final Test match at Pallekele. He made a smooth transition from Test cricket to ODIs, by scoring an unbeaten hundred in the 1st ODI at Dambulla, which helped the visitors win by 9 wickets.
Dhawan is well known for his care free, risk-taking style of play. The 31-year-old is known as ‘Gabbar’ by his team-mates. His nickname is inspired by the blockbuster Indian movie- ‘Sholay’. Late actor Amjad Khan portrayed the role of ‘Gabbar’, one of the most celebrated villains of Indian cinema. Dhawan is a totally opposite character. He is known as one of the nicest cricketers and is always seen having a good time both on and off the field.
Rocky inspires him
In an interview with Cricket Today, Dhawan revealed that his favourite actor is Aamir Khan. Dhawan’s teammate and the skipper of the Indian team Virat Kohli is also a fan of Amir Khan. The opener also revealed that his favourite actress is Kareena Kapoor. But no, 3 Idiots is not the favourite movie of the Delhite. Dhawan’s all-time favourite movie is John Avildsen’s Rocky (1976), starring Sylvester Stallone. He has named Lord’s as his favourite cricket ground. When asked about his favourite cricketer, Dhawan said it is none other than the master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
Dominating in all three formats
In 87 ODIs, Dhawan has piled up 3721 runs at an average of 45.37, along with 11 hundreds and 21 fifties. In Test matches, the southpaw has scored 1822 runs from 26 matches at an impressive average of 43.38. He has been dominated the shortest format too. The opener has a couple of fifties from 23 games, along with a strike rate of over 115.
