Indian left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan didn’t have an auspicious time in England, especially in the Tests, by any stretch of the imagination and subsequently was bashed for his indifferent performances at the top of the order. However, the Delhi-born cricketer has made a strong statement in the recently concluded 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He scored a masterful century against Hong Kong at Dubai International Cricket Stadium to start his campaign. He got starts in the next couple of matches against Pakistan and Bangladesh, but couldn’t convert. Nevertheless, he was back to his very best in India’s Super 4 match against Sarfraz Ahmed’s men and notched his second century of the 50-overs event.

Dhawan back to his best

Moreover, he stitched together a 200 plus-run stand with fellow opening batsman Rohit Sharma to help India track down a competitive target set by Pakistan. In the last match against the Tigers, Dhawan played three gorgeous strokes but fell prey to the left-arm spin of Nazmul Islam Apu. The batsman tried to clear mid-off, but could only manage to find Soumya Sarkar.

He was the first wicket to fall and Bangladesh made India strain for chasing the target. Eventually, it was the Men in Blue who held their nerves in the final over with six runs to get. Kedar Jadhav and Kuldeep Yadav scored the required runs off Mahmudullah to help India to their seventh Asia Cup title. Moreover, to Dhawan’s delight, he was crowned as the Man of the Tournament.

The 32-year-old was the leading run scorer of the event with 342 runs in five matches at an average of 68.40. After the victory, Dhawan posted a picture on Instagram where he can be seen holding the trophy with his son Zoravar. He also mentioned it as the best moment from the encounter.

He captioned the photo and wrote, “Holding the trophy with my son #Zoraver was one of the best moments of the night. A great series, fantastic finals and #Asiacup stays with us. #teamindia #asiacup2018 #champions,”
