Shikhar Dhawan’s amazing effort robs Shai Hope of a six
Dhawan made a valuable contribution even before walking out to bat.
In a high-scoring game, it is not just about the batting and the bowling efforts but the performance by the fielders matters as well. Shikhar Dhawan who has been off-colour in the ongoing series against Windies pulled off a brilliant effort at the ropes to save a certain six. It was Shai Hope who had muscled one from Krunal Pandya and it was destined to go all the way.
It was the third ball of the 6th over of the innings. After a flying start by the Windies batters Indian skipper Rohit Sharma brought his second spinner into the attack as early as the sixth over. Pandya bowled a flatter delivery trying to give the batsman nothing to play with but it missed the line and was down the leg-side. Hope launched into it and the ball did gain a lot of elevation but not as much distance.
Then Dhawan stationed at deep mid-wicket got into the game and kept his eyes on the ball till the last moment. He timed his jump to perfection and then caught the ball. Since he would go over the ropes flicked the ball inside. It was a close call and the third umpire checked it only to conclude that Dhawan had cleanly prevented any contact with the ropes while the ball was in his hands.
He saved five runs for the team and Hope after a fifty-run partnership for the opening wicket with Shimron Hetmyer lost his wicket to Yuzvendra Chahal in the very next over. He went for a slog sweep against the leg-spinner and was caught by Washington Sundar at deep mid-wicket for 24 off 22 balls.

Later in the game, Dhawan also had a contribution to make with the bat, in a run chase where the likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul failed to get going, he scored 92 from 62 balls to take the Indian team to a victory.
