Shikhar Dhawan has had a remarkable comeback in the Indian setup after spending close to a year out of the team. Since the Champions Trophy in June, Dhawan has gone on to amass more than 1,000 runs for India in Tests and ODIs and looks good for more. He scored his fastest ODI hundred in the first game which took India home in a canter while chasing 217.

Dhawan’s leap

Niroshan Dickwella has looked good during the entire course of the series. In the first ODI, he made a sound 64 before losing his wicket to part timer Kedar Jadhav which brought the downfall of the hosts as they slumped from 139 for 1 to 216 all out. In the second game, Dickwella again looked in fine form and quickly rose onto 31 before he was smartly taken by Dhawan at short midwicket. He got Sri Lanka off to a flier and did the bulk of the scoring as his partner Gunathilaka was struggling at the other end. Dhawan held on to the catch and tumbled onto the ground before unveiling his Kabaddi move, a celebration you associate with him a lot these days.

Hosts struggle to put runs on the board again

After Dickwella’s wicket, Sri Lanka struggled and slumped to 121 for 5 before Milinda Siriwardana’s run-a-ball 58 and Chamara Kapugedera’s 40 lifted them up to 236 for 8 in 50 overs. It is a modest total according to today’s day and age but it was still a decent recovery by the hosts who have struggled to come to terms with the dominant Indian team in the series.

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers ending with 4/43 off his 10 overs. Spinners: Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal bowled well in tandem and gave away just 73 runs in 20 overs while picking 3 wickets collectively. Going by the form of Indian batsmen, the chase will yet again be a walk in the park for them.
