It’s just two years that Shivam Dube made his first-class debut and the Mumbai all-rounder is gradually making a mark on the international stage. The 26-year-old recently slammed his maiden fifty in international cricket by scoring 54 off 30 balls against the West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram.
Although India lost the match but Dube had a lasting impact. India bowling coach Bharat Arun believes Dube has all it takes to become a good international all-rounder as he keeps gaining confidence with each match.
While Dube slammed four sixes during his knock in Thiruvananthapuram, he claimed three wickets for 30 in a T20I against Bangladesh in Nagpur in the series before to display his dual skills. Now, the youngster is all set to make his debut in the ODIs as India take on the West Indies in a three-match series in the 50-over format starting Sunday.
“He (Dube) is an exciting prospect and I think he is gaining in confidence from every game. Even you if look at the way he came back the way after he bowled the first over (in Mumbai) against West Indies, I think that was creditable. For Virat (Kohli), to show faith in him after the first over and also for him to bowl a good spell after that,” Arun told the media ahead of the first game in Chennai.
“And I think he is an exciting talent for us. As he gains in confidence, he will become a good all-rounder,” he added. Dube averages over 40s in first-class and List A games and has two first-class fifers as well.
Bharat Arun also praised Deepak Chahar
Arun also praised seamer Deepak Chahar who has also done for India in the T20Is. In the series-deciding game in Nagpur recently, Chahar picked six wickets for only seven runs to floor Bangladesh and it is the best bowling figure internationally at the moment. According to Arun, Chahar has all the ingredients to do consistently well internationally.
“Deepak has been exceptional even in the IPL. He is someone who can move the ball both ways. He is also a very skilful bowler, bowling slow bouncers, yorkers, I think with so much skill on hand… let me put it this way, he has got everything in him to do well at the international level,” he added.
