Young Shivam Mavi has been having a dream year in 2018. From being an instrumental cog in the 2018 U19 World Cup winning Indian squad to being bagged by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the youngster has seen it all in the span of a few months. Recently, Mavi had another dream come true when he met MS Dhoni and was advised on his bowling by the veteran.
An all-rounder armed with exquisite pace, Mavi has emerged as a valuable asset to Indian cricket. He garnered recognition in the U19 World Cup and was impressive in the 2018 IPL where he got to play 9 matches for KKR. What can be termed as the young cricketer’s most precious achievement in the IPL was Gautam Gambhir‘s wicket that he plucked in his second IPL outing.
MS Dhoni praised Shivam Mavi on his bowling
In an interview with InUth, Mavi revealed that he’d met up with former Indian skipper Dhoni and had conversed with him regarding how to improve his game. He related his experience in detail and said, “I met Dhoni after our game with them and asked for his feedback on my performance. He told me that I was bowling at a good speed and that it’s not easy to hit on my bowling. He advised me to keep the focus on my line and length.”
In the 9 games that the young pacer played for KKR, Mavi picked up 5 wickets. Moreover, he bowled at 149 kmph speed throughout the season, 149.86 kmph being his fastest delivery. While he entered the auction at a nominal base price of INR 20 lakhs, his price soon went through the roof as a prolonged bidding war resulted in him being bought by the KKR for a whopping INR 3 crores.
Mavi also appreciated Dinesh Karthik’s captaincy in the recently concluded season of the IPL and expressed hopes of playing for the national team in the near future. He also acknowledged the cricketing knowledge that he’s been able to imbibe from the senior players, including the likes of Jacque Kallis and Mitchell Johnson.
