Shivnarine Chanderpaul does the unbelievable; smashes 210 runs in a T20; team scores 303
Chanderpaul opened the innings with Dwayne Smith against Mad Dogs, a team from the USA.
In what is a first in the shortest format of the game, former West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored 210 runs in a T20 match. The 44-year-old went berserk as he smashed 210 off just 76 balls in the Adam Sanford Cricket4Life T20 tournament at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark at St.Maarten. More than half of his innings came from boundaries as he hit 25 fours and 13 sixes.
According to newsroom.gy, Chanderpaul opened the innings with Dwayne Smith against Mad Dogs, a team from the USA. On the back of the 210 runs, Chanderpaul’s team posted an ODI like score of 303 and won the games by 192 runs. Smith, on the other hand, scored 54 off 29 balls with eight fours and two sixes.
Unceremonious exit from the national team
Chanderpaul is one of the greatest to have played for the West Indies, yet one of the least celebrated cricketers. He was unceremoniously dropped by the Windies board from the players’ contract in December 2015 sighting poor performances in against England in the Caribbean in 2015.
This, despite the team having no better replacement. The batsman subsequently retired from international cricket in January 2016 but still plays first-class cricket for Lancashire in the County Championship and for Guyana in the Regional Four Day Competition of West Indies.
In 164 Tests that he played, the batsman scored 11,867 runs at an average of 51, with 30 centuries. That record is only second on the list of all-time West Indies run-scorers, 86 runs short of Brian Lara who has 11,953 runs. In ODIs, he has 8778 runs from 251 innings at an average of 41.60. He has also played 22 T20Is, scoring 343 runs at a strike rate of 98.84
His stint in the IPL
The southpaw played 3 IPL matches for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2008 edition, from which he scored 25 runs and was subsequently out of RCB’s playing XI for the next couple of games, and went unsold in the auctions for the next edition.
