Shoaib Akhtar opines on the sarcastic criticism of Sarfraz Ahmed promoting ‘Zero’
Sarfraz didn't have the best of times in 2018.
Pakistan are International Cricket Council’s (ICC) number-one ranked T20I team as they have won 11 consecutive series’ in the format under the leadership of Sarfraz Ahmed. However, the Pakistan captain has had a tough time as far as the other two formats of cricket, especially Test cricket. The Men in Green lost the three-match series against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Pakistan are currently in South Africa for a three-match series and the visitors lost the opening Test by six wickets at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The 31-year-old Sarfraz managed to bag a pair in the encounter. Even as fast bowler Duanne Olivier, also the Player of the Man, castled him in the first innings, speedster Kagiso Rabada accounted for his wicket in the second innings.
In the meantime, some sarcastic comments surrounding Sarfraz, promoting Bollywood movie Shah Ruk Khan-starrer Zero, has been doing the rounds. Throwing light on the developments, former speedster Shoaib Akhtar mentioned that criticisms are inevitable when someone is going through a rough patch.
“I’ve heard that Sarfaraz Ahmed is promoting Shah Rukh Khan’s latest movie Zero. This type of criticism will keep coming at him when he doesn’t give good performances,” Akhtar was quoted as saying in Pak Passion.
Topsy-turvy time for Pakistan and Sarfraz Ahmed
Recently, talks of Sarfraz giving up Test captaincy also came to the fore. This year, Pakistan played nine Tests, but could only win four of them, one each against Ireland, England, Australia and New Zealand. Their only series victory came against Australia in the UAE back in October.
As far as Sarfraz is concerned, he went on to score only 337 runs at an average of 24.07. His top score of 94 came in the first innings of the second Test against Tim Paine’s Australia at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Apart from that, he wasn’t able to churn out substantial knocks.
