Shoaib Akhtar is one of fastest bowlers the cricket world has ever seen. He employed no half-measures while bowling and preferred to dictate terms to the batsmen with his raw pace. Opponents used to be wary of his fiery Yorkers and his vicious bouncers, that ruffled the best in the business throughout his career. He made his international debut in 1997 at Rawalpindi, his birthplace, in an ODI against the Windies.

Ever since, he grew in stature and became a tormenting factor for the opponents, especially in the limited-overs formats. His career spanned for a tad over 13 years in which he notched as many as 443 wickets across the three formats of the game. He also represented the Pakistan Under-19 team back in 1994 when New Zealand Under-19 toured Pakistan for an ODI and a Test series.

The stop-start career

Nevertheless, his career was marred by frequent injuries owing to which missed a number of series. The 42-year last played for Pakistan in the 2011 Cricket World Cup in the sub-continent. He didn’t have an auspicious farewell match as he conceded 70 runs in his nine overs and was taken to the cleaners by Ross Taylor, who scored a jaw-dropping century in the game.

Pakistan progressed to the semi-final of the event against India and Akhtar was dropped due to lack of form. In 2015, he was a part of the Sachin’s Blasters team that played a three-match T20 series against Warne’s Warriors in the United States of America. Akhtar is an active participant on social media and he comes up with funny tweets from time to time.

He posted a picture where he is sitting with a bunch of cricketers and said that it was from his Under-19 days. However, Twitterati found something fishy about the post and commented back saying that the men in the picture don’t U19 boys, rather experienced bunch of cricketers.
