Shoaib Akhtar suggests a captaincy change for Pakistan in Tests

Pakistan’s poor show in the recently concluded Asia Cup hasn’t gone down well with the former cricketers in the country. More than anything, Sarfraz Ahmed‘s captaincy has come under the scanner for not handling his troops well in the crunch games when it mattered the most. With the Test series against Australia approaching, Shoaib Akhtar has suggested a captaincy change for the longest format and wants Babar Azam to take up the responsibility.

Sarfraz’s own form with the bat has been not so good. He failed in England Tests as well and the dry run continued for him in Asia’s most important tournament as well. He averages under 15 since the Champions Trophy 2017 and should up his game soon with World Cup only a few months away.

Sarfraz should lead till the 2019 World Cup

Shoaib Akhtar, while speaking to the media, expressed his thoughts about the captaincy change for Pakistan. He was of the opinion that the wicketkeeper-batsman should take some bold decisions going forward while also saying that it will be a challenge for Sarfraz to lead in all three formats.

“Sarfraz should lead Pakistan team till 2019 ODI World Cup, as far as Test captaincy is concerned Babar Azam would be a decent choice. it’s a challenge for Sarfraz that if he wants to lead Pakistan team in all three formats then he has to perform well. He [Sarfraz] should take some bold decisions and have to perform with the bat,” he was quoted as saying by ARY Sports.

Pakistan will be facing Australia in the two-match Test series in the United Arab Emirates now and the first game will commence on October 7. Akhtar felt that the team should move on from the disastrous Asia Cup and put up a good show against the team from down under. “It’s time to move on but we should learn from our mistakes as upcoming series against Australia and New Zealand are so important,” the 43-year-old added.
