The description Malik used doesn’t come as much of a surprise as Dhoni enjoys a great fan following in Pakistan. Recently Sarfaraz Ahmed called the most successful Indian captain his idol whereas Ahmed Shehzad had also once termed him the greatest finisher. Many other Pakistani cricketers have spoken highly when it comes to Captain Cool.
Currently, MS is gearing up for the five match One-Day International series which begins on Sunday (September 17). He is closing on to 10,000 ODI runs and if he gets ample opportunities to come out with more than a few overs in hand, he may well achieve the feat in this series. He very recently completed a record 100 stumpings in ODIs; a mark no other keeper had managed to touch before him.
On the other hand, Malik is probably playing one of the most important series in his life against the World XI. Recently he also became Pakistan’s highest run-scorer in the T20 format. With a tally of 1702 runs, Malik is only the sixth international player to score 1700 or more runs. Brendon McCullum, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virat Kohli, Martin Guptill, Mohammad Shahzad are the others who are ahead of him in the list of top run scorers.
