Veteran Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez recently announced retirement from Test cricket. The ongoing Abu Dhabi Test against New Zealand will be the last outing for the all-rounder in the Pakistani Test whites. Right after the end of play on Tuesday, Hafeez made the big announcement. His good friend and teammate, Shoaib Malik, was quick to congratulate the 38-year-old on a fantastic career.

Malik took to Twitter to express his emotions on the big news. He highlighted Hafeez’s achievements with the national side in Test cricket. He also went on to quote that the decision to retire from the format must have been a very tough one, and he added that Hafeez must be proud of the same. Earlier, the all-rounder had also expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped him in his career with a tweet.

Here is what Shoaib Malik had to say:

“Congrats on a fantastic career and and the achievements in Tests for our nation. It’s not easy brother, it’s like letting go of a part of yourself. You and your family should be very proud of yourself, we all are. Well done,” Malik wrote in his tweet.

Mohammad Hafeez had made his debut for Pakistan in the longest format way back in 2003 against Bangladesh. His Test career spanned across 15 years and he went on to represent the national side in 55 Test matches. He notched up 10 centuries in the whites and was a handy bowling option for his side as well.

The decision to retire from Test cricket seems like a prudent call by the veteran all-rounder. Hafeez noted that he wishes to focus on white ball cricket and has his eyes set on the ICC World Cup 2019. Hafeez is an integral part of the national setup and is most likely to be in the Pakistan squad for the ICC mega event next year.

Currently, he had an off time in his last Test, as he could only manage a four-ball duck in the first innings of the Test. If Pakistan bats again in the Test, it will be Hafeez’s last Test innings.
