Shoaib Malik credits Sania Mirza for his comeback in the national side: The Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik has outlined the significance of his wife Sania Mirza the ace Indian Tennis player in getting his career back on right track after Malik had suffered prolonged slump in form and his career was going nowhere. But this year around since Shoaib has made his international comeback against Zimbabwe, there has been no looking back. The former Pakistani skipper has featured in 8 ODI matches this year and has scored 339 runs at a staggering average of 84.75 with 1 century and 2 half-centuries to his credit. It is notable that between 2010 and 2014 he had represented Pakistan in only 29 ODI matches.
The 33-year-old was quoted by a local Pakistani channel saying that, “I know how hard she has worked for her success and it has also driven me to do the same in cricket. That is why I was able to make a successful comeback to the Pakistan team which makes me very happy now.”
The couple hails from sports background, reflecting on the things which Malik can discuss with Sania Mirza as a sports-person he said, “At times you are not able to talk and share your thoughts or feelings with someone in the team and I am lucky to have Sania. She gives me that required cushion where I can discuss things with her at a sportsman’s level and get good advice.”
Shoaib Malik also admitted that he had committed mistakes in the past but now has a very clear goal in his mind which is to become a top all-rounder. Malik said that, “I want to be a top all-rounder and that is my goal. I know I have made mistakes in the past and I regret that now. But it has also made me a more mature and calm person and athlete.”
