Shoaib Malik is a seasoned campaigner in the shortest form of the game. The former Pakistani batsman has done well with both and ball for his franchises and country over the past one decade. He recently became the first Asian to score 2000 runs in the T20 Internationals. The right-handed batsman has scored 7974 runs in his T20 career, while he has also taken 133 wickets in the 20-overs format.
Shoaib Malik to lead his team in CPL
The Pakistani batsman has been playing in the Carribean Premier League since 2013 ever since he made his debut for Barbados Tridents. He was impressive for the franchise as he scored 1274 runs for them. This season, the all-rounder will play for a new franchise, Guyana Amazon Warriors, who signed him in May this year.
The Guyana based franchise has now announced that Shoaib Malik will lead them in their upcoming campaign. Shoaib Malik is not new to captaincy, as he has led his country in 36 T20Is, winning 24 of them. He also led Multan Sultans in their maiden season in the PSL this year.
Shoaib Malik is looking forward to campaign
“Over the last few seasons I really enjoyed my time with the Hero CPL as a player with the Barbados Tridents and now I look forward with great pride to captain the Guyana Amazon Warriors in this year’s tournament,” Shoaib Malik said as quoted by Cricbuzz
He added that Guyana has done well over the years and he hopes that this time they will be hoping to put forth a sterling performance on the cricket pitch.
Coach is happy with the appointment
Johan Botha, who is the head coach of Guyana Amazon Warriors. has previously worked with Shoaib Malik in the PSL. The former South African spinner was full of praises for the new captain of his franchise. He highlighted that Malik’s ability to stay calm can be very vital to the team’s prospects in the league.
“It’s great to have the experience of Shoaib leading us this year. He is a very calm leader which will be great in pressure situations on the field. I worked with him earlier this year in the Pakistan Super League so we come into the CPL and the Guyana Amazon Warriors team with a good working relationship and understanding of each other,” Botha said.
