India A put up a hefty total of 320 in the first unofficial Test match against New Zealand A, aided by a stunning century by Shreyas Iyer. The formidable total came as a response to a paltry 147 that the Kiwis were able to score in their first innings. At stumps on Day 2, New Zealand A trails by 109 runs.

Young Mumbai batsman, Iyer wielded his bat with superb skill to accumulate 108 runs. His teammates, Ravikumar Samarth and Rishabh Pant joined the party, as the duo scored half centuries each. The first 4-day Test of the 2-Test series between the two teams is being played at the ACA Cricket Ground, Vijayawada.

Shreyas Iyer plays a stellar inning

The Kiwis were unable to put up a challenging score in the first innings as the India A bowlers ripped through their batting line-up. With Karn Sharma and Shahbaz Nadeem picking up 4 wickets apiece, the Henry Nicholls-led side posted a total of 147 on the board. The wicketkeeper, Tim Seifert was the highest run-getter, with his knock of 35 runs off 114 deliveries.

Opener, Samarth scored a gritty 55 off 100 balls but failed to turn it into a big inning. India A seemed to be in a spot of bother when they were reduced to 111/4 in the 36th over. It was then that Iyer stepped on the gas pedal and smashed a spectacular century. His blazing innings comprised 14 boundaries and 2 6’s. Further, Rishabh played a limited overs’ knock as he pulled off a quick-fire inning of 67 runs off just 41 deliveries.

It was Pant’s wildfire innings that helped his team cruise past the 300-run mark and India A put up a score of 320 runs, giving the Kiwis a monstrous mountain to scale.

In the bowling department, Ish Sodhi was the most successful in the New Zealand A squad as he took a 5-wicket haul for just 94 runs in 22 overs. New Zealand ended Day 2 with a score of 64/2 in their second innings.
