Shubman Gill was born to a Jatt Sikh family on September 8, 1999, in Fazilka, Punjab. The young superstar received a lot of support from his family, especially during the initial days of his cricket life.
Shubman Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Singh Gill is an agriculturist, who wanted to become a cricketer in his younger days. He was not able to achieve his dream but left no stone unturned in helping his son wear India colours. At an early age, Lakhwinder Singh Gill identified the talent his son possessed and asked the hired help at the farm to throw balls at the youngster to help him hone his skills. In his farm, Lakhwinder created a cricket ground and set up a turf pitch where his son could practice batting. He would challenge the village boys to take his son’s wicket and if they were successful in dismissing him, they would get 100 rupees as a reward.
After realising that there was something special in Shubman, his father moved with his family to Mohali and rented a house near the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Shubman’s father once said that his son began playing cricket at the age of three and he used to sleep with a bat and a ball.
