His talent has, in the past, caught the eyes of former Pakistan wicket-keeper when he went berserk with the bat in a college tournament that also featured teams from Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Since then, Siddhesh Lad’s special talent has not remained hidden and ever since he made his debut in domestic cricket for Mumbai, his skills with the bat have been there for everybody to see.
Having played 49 first-class games in which he averages 43.27, the 26-year-old has become a famous name in Mumbai’s cricketing circles just like his father Dinesh Lad who is a cricket coach and has mentored ace Indian batsman Rohit Sharma. Incidentally, Siddhesh is now a member of the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is led by Rohit and according to Dinesh, the MI skipper is like an elder brother to his son.
Will Lad get a chance this year?
Having said that, he is yet to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) yet and spent the entire 2018 season on the bench last year. Though it seems that the time has finally come for Siddhesh Lad as the skipper Rohit Sharma has stressed the fact of him being a crucial part of the squad and also lauded him for having a brilliant domestic season.
“Siddhesh Lad is an integral part of MI. He has had a good run in the domestic circuit,” Rohit said according to Mumbai Indians’ Twitter handle and he might well make his debut this season at some stage. It remains to be seen though if Lad manages to grab on to the opportunity and make it big.

Mumbai Indians are one of the favourites to win the IPL this year, thanks to a strong team they have and also that this is an odd-number year since Rohit’s teams have won the title in 2013, 2015 and 2017. MI also has two veterans in the form of Yuvraj Singh and Lasith Malinga in their side, choosing to make their combination a perfect blend of experience and exuberance.
