The South African team had a disappointing start to the ODI series which saw them go down 0-3 against visitors India. Unbeaten at home with a 17-match win-streak, the Proteas failed to convert a single win yet in the six-match series. Thus with a series defeat right on the verge, the Proteas will wish for a turnaround in fortunes.

Interestingly, the fourth ODI between India and South Africa is set to be a Pink ODI and it holds special significance to the people of the rainbow nation. The Pink ODI is played to raise awareness about breast cancer, and for the benefit of those suffering from the disease. It was first played in 2011, and this will be the sixth such occasion.

In South Africa, Pink ODI is considered a must-attend occasion on their domestic sports calendar. For this interesting contest at the Wanderers Stadium tomorrow, spectators have also been strongly encouraged to come decked out in pink attire to show their support for breast cancer awareness.

A little more about Pink ODIs

The home team will be seen donning their unique pink jersey. South Africa currently face series defeat and have never lost when playing in the pink jersey and will hope to replicate that in the fourth game.

Former captain AB de Villiers, who is back after injury for the 4th ODI, holds some interesting records while playing in the pink jersey. In 2015, he effectively beat the West Indies as he smashed 149 off 44 balls.

This year’s ‘Pink ODI’ aims to collect a massive amount of 1million the Breast Cancer Clinic at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.

The two teams lock horns tomorrow in Johannesburg in what promises to be a high-octane clash. India will be looking to script history as they are on the cusp of sealing a maiden series victory across formats against South Africa away from home.
