Simon Katich urges Chris Lynn to consider his T20 workload

The former Australian cricketer Simon Katich feels that Chris Lynn has to consider the amount of cricket he will play in the near future. The swashbuckling batsman has had the history of injuries which had already restricted from fielding aggressively while on the field. Moreover, he got injured after diving awkwardly during the final of the recently concluded T20I tri-series against New Zealand. However, the cricketer is expected to get fit in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL) which will commence on April 7.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) used the Right to Match (RTM) card to get back the services of Lynn during the IPL auction in January. Katich played the crucial role in the franchise snapping him as he is the key advisor of KKR for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Interestingly, they were also mulling over making Lynn the captain of the team but given his injury concerns, they would be pondering over other options.

How much cricket his body can withstand

Simon Katich believed that the time has come for Chris Lynn to decide the T20 workload on his body to extend his cricketing career. “He has to make a decision about how much cricket his body can withstand at this level. We’ve had numerous discussions about how he can try and protect himself in the field, obviously diving is a big concern given his history, but that’s the nature of the game,” he told Melbourne radio station SEN.

Katich also added that Lynn doesn’t like letting down his teammates and leak runs while on the field and always wants to give his 100% while fielding for his team. But the spate of injuries are not helping his cause and will have to decide on his future soon. “When instincts take over and you feel like you’re letting your teammates down, he’s the sort of guy that doesn’t want to see one of his bowlers miss out and cost them a few runs. But ultimately it’s costing him in the long run. He’s going to have to have a think about that and we’ll be there to support him,” he concluded.
