Singapore and Malaysia will go head to head in a three-match T20I series hosted by Singapore, commencing on Tuesday, 28th June. The hosts have won both their previous T20I encounters against arch-rivals Malaysia.
Singapore’s last outing against the visitors came in the ACC Eastern Region T20 fixture in 2020. Star batter Tim David was sensational in that game as he scored 92 runs off just 32 balls for Singapore. The explosive batter, who also plays for Mumbai Indians, showcased his power-hitting abilities in IPL 2022, but he will not be a part of the Singapore team as he is likely to switch to the Australian national team ahead of the T20 World Cup.
All three fixtures of this series will take place at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore from June 28 to 30. The hosts are ranked in the 20th position in the ICC T20 charts and will be playing World T20 qualifiers next month after the culmination of the T20I series against Malaysia. Singapore, led by Amjad Mahboob, will hope for a strong showing in this series in preparation for the upcoming qualifiers.
On the other hand, the visitors are heading into the series on the back of a miserable performance in the Nepal Tri-Nation series and are currently on a three-match losing streak. The Malaysian team led by Ahmad Faiz and coached by Bilal Asad, are currently ranked 31st in Men’s ICC T20I Rankings, while the hosts Singapore are ranked 20th.
