Zimbabwe, Nepal and Singapore are all set to lock horns in a T20I tri-nation series. The matches will be played at the Indian Association Ground in Singapore. The opening match is scheduled to be played between Zimbabwe and Nepal and it’s expected to be a cracker. Zimbabwe will be captained by Sean Williams after Hamilton Masakadza hung his boots following the tri-series in Bangladesh.
Zimbabwe didn’t make the final, but beat Afghanistan in Chattogram, a game they could draw confidence from. The triumph also broke the opponent’s 12-match winning streak in T20Is. As far as Nepal is concerned, they failed to make the T20 World Cup qualifiers after Singapore beat them at the same venue. It will also be the first game between Zimbabwe and Nepal in international cricket.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch during the qualifiers turned out to be favourable for the batters. But the scores went down a bit as the event progressed. The next match is a day-night affair and a high-scoring match can take place. There is a forecast of rain and a delayed start, but seems to be on the cards, but the conditions will improve from 5 PM local time. Dew will play a part and so batting second seems to be the appropriate option.
Team Combinations
Zimbabwe
Craig Ervine has been ruled out of the tournament and has been replaced by Ryan Burl, who hit Shakib Al Hasan for 30 runs in one over earlier this month in Mirpur. Regis Chakabva is also in good form. Sean Williams was poor with the bat in the last series, but chipped in with the ball. His role will be important. Tendai Chatara will lead the bowling attack and needs support from the others.
Probable XI
Brian Chari, Regis Chakabva, Peter Moor, Sean Williams (C), Tinotenda Mutombodzi, Ryan Burl, Richmond Mutumbami, Wellington Masakadza, Neville Madziva, Tendai Chatara, Daniel Jakiel.
Nepal
Paras Khadka has been a prolific performer for Nepal and the onus will be on him. The likes of Sompal Kami and Rohit Paudel also are experienced. Sandeep Lamichhane has been a tad off colour for Nepal in recent times. However, his form in the CPL for the Barbados Tridents will be a confidence booster. Sundeep Jora became the youngest player to score a T20I fifty this year and the focus will be on him.
Probable XI
Paras Khadka (C), Pawan Sarraf, Dipendra Singh Airee, Md.Arif Sheikh, Sundeep Jora, Rohit Paudel, Binod Bhandari (WK), Karan Kc, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamicchanne, Abinash Bohara.
