Sir Donald Bradman's 1928 baggy green sold for record-breaking figures

Sir Donald Bradman is celebrated in the highest regard as a cricketer. Not only Australia but the world saw him as the finest man with the bat in the history of cricket. His 1928 cap was put up for a sale just before days, and it was expected that it will fetch in a huge amount of money. The estimation around his prized baggy green was more than $1 million, but it only attracted a top bid of $391,500.

However, in the latest turn of events, it has been reported that his baggy green has been sold for ‘record-breaking’ figures. Syndey businessman Peter Freedman, founder, and chairman of Sydney Electronics Company Rode became its proud owner. Gavin Dempsey informed that it was sold for a record-breaking price. It has also been reported that the sale has surpassed the amount that came in after selling Bradman’s 1948 cap. That was sold at an auction for $425,000 back in 2003.

The current cap attracted higher bids because of its link to a former accountant and a convicted fraudster Peter Dunham. He got the cap gifted by Bradman himself while he was legend’s young neighbour. The victims of Dunham, who were put behind the bars earlier this year, expected that the auction price would help them recoup funds stolen from them.

Freedman has also expressed the desire of touring the cap around the whole of Australia in 2021 and will be more than pleased if he could get a piece of memorabilia from the “Aussie Legend,” Sir Don Bradman.

“Not only [was he] one of our greatest talents on the sporting field and one of the most revered athletes of all time, but [he was] an icon of Australian fortitude, and resilience. All too often, memorabilia such as this end up spending its life on the wall of some board room or in some basement bar of a well-heeled sports fanatic. I want as many people to enjoy it as possible. I have some exciting plans for the baggy green that will see it travel the country and shared with sports fans and cricketing communities,” said Mr. Freedman as quoted by abc.net.au.
