The Quetta Gladiators team management has announced that the West Indian legend Sir Vivian Richards has become a permanent member of the franchise. Earlier, there were rumours that the legendary cricketer was about to leave the team. It was also reported that the franchise was looking for Kevin Pietersen to appoint him as a mentor to replace Richards. But his impact has been so positive that the team management is not willing to part ways with him.
Richards has shown a different side of himself in the Quetta dugout. Earlier he had mentioned that unlike all the other T20 leagues where he has played similar roles, for the first time he felt he was part of a closely-knit family at Quetta.
He has played the ball boy during the fielding drills, put arms around the players in the nets and played the cheerleader in the camp. Most importantly he has motivated the players to do well and has gelled with them superbly.
Quetta Gladiators is like a family
The team owner Nadeem Omar has refuted all the unwanted rumours of Richards leaving Gladiators and cleared the air by stating that he is a lifetime member of the franchise now. “It’s proud moment for us to be with Vivian Richards. Quetta Gladiators is like a family and once a player joins it, it will be against our rules to sack him. it is not possible that we would break our relationship with Sir Richards,” he said.
Quetta finished as runners-up in both the editions of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). But they would look to go one step better in the third season of the tournament. Sir Viv is expected to play a humongous role for the team along with the skipper Sarfraz Ahmed. Also, he is the most respected person in the dressing room and the team is incomplete without the presence of the legendary figure.
