'Six 6s, Adelaide 36' - Ravi Shastri shows Indian cricket’s unique connection with number 36

36 must be a dreaded number for the Indian fans after the Adelaide Test against Australia in December 2020. In a humiliating turn of events, India were all out for just 36 – their lowest-ever score in Test cricket- as Australia thrashed them by eight wickets. At the same time, the number 36 also holds some very happy memories for Indian cricket and Ravi Shastri recently pointed it out.

The head coach of Team India, on Wednesday, took to Twitter to point out Indian cricket’s unique connection with the number. He also highlighted the significance of the same number for Team India. Shastri opened up on how the number played a role not just in his career, but also in the careers of other Indian cricketers.

The former India all-rounder shared a picture of himself on the social media handle in which he could be seen holding a trophy. In the caption, he wrote how there are too many 36s related to Indian cricket. He started by mentioning the six sixes he hit in an over before mentioning Sunil Gavaskar’s infamous 36* runs in 60 overs. Shastri also mentioned the Adelaide debacle and finished his tweet by tagging Yuvraj Singh who has also hit six sixes in an over.

Ravi Shastri’s six sixes:

Ravi Shastri’s six sixes did not come in international cricket. He had achieved the feat in the 1984/85 Ranji Trophy season. Playing for Mumbai, Shastri had slammed six sixes in an over against Baroda. Later in 2007, Yuvraj became the first Indian to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket. Singh achieved the feat during the 2007 T20 World Cup clash against England. Incidentally, Shastri was the commentator when Yuvraj had taken Stuart Broad to the cleaners.

Recently, Kieron Pollard also joined the 36-run club when he slammed six sixes in an over against Sri Lanka in Antigua. The West Indies T20I skipper hit the sixes off Akila Dananjaya. He became only the third player to achieve the feat at the highest level.
