Australia decimated a miserable Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle as they won the first Test comfortably by ten wickets. Australia, who batted last in the match, were set a target of just five runs after the hosts collapsed for a meager 113 runs in their second innings. Travis Head, who was drafted into the team as a batter, made the rounds on social media after he castled Dinesh Chandimal with a peach of a delivery to scalp his first Test wicket.
Sri Lanka, who wiped the Australian tail on the morning of the third day, started well in the second innings before a host of quick wickets saw them reeling at 63/4. Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal were slowly making progress with a handy little partnership before Pat Cummins decided to toss the ball to part-timer Travis Head. The offie who had never picked a wicket in his 229 deliveries in Tests, struck gold on his second ball.
The part-timer tossed the ball outside Chandimal’s off-stump, who tried to reach for the ball but was done all ends up by the sharp turn as the ball went onto hit his middle stump. The batter couldn’t believe his luck and was left bemused at the crease. Meanwhile, the bowler couldn’t contain his excitement after bowling a dream delivery and was over joyous in his celebrations after claiming his first Test wicket.

Nathan Lyon breaks into top 10 highest wicket-takers in Test cricket
Earlier, it was Head’s senior spin bowling partner Nathan Lyon who caused the hosts all sorts of problems with his excellent bowling. The veteran spinner has now broken into the list of top ten wicket-takers in Test history, joining an elite list of spinners like Muttiah Muralitharan, Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, and the late Shane Warne. Lyon‘s career has seemed to come a full circle as his first wicket came at the same venue when he dismissed Kumar Sangakkara with his very first delivery on his Test debut.
