Amidst the controversy surrounding the toss goof up during the only T20 between India and Sri Lanka, SLC has made it clear that Andy Pycroft, the match referee, made the right call. The apparent mix-up led to the blame being given to presenter Murali Karthik and Andy Pycroft for being irresponsible and not reporting the confusion the very instant.
However, it turns out that there really wasn’t any confusion on the field. Sri Lanka’s Cricket’s twitter handle cleared the mess up by saying,“#SLvInd T20I Match Referee Andy PYCROFT called it correctly – “Heads India”. Watch the video” SLC said on its official Twitter handle.
“We are confirming PYCROFT called correctly – we’ve enhanced the audio and confirmed, and the captain too has confirmed,” A Top official told Cricket Age.
“The Reason for PYCROFT looking confused according to ICC is that Virat should tell him the decision first but Karthik goes on to interview” source further added.
The SLC tweet:

If we go by what the tweet says, even if the video in the tweet does not help the clarity in the audio, Pycroft called it correctly, and Karthik reported it correctly. The only problem there appears is that, according to ICC, the captain that wins the toss is supposed to tell him the decision about choosing to bat or field first to the referee but they headed straight to the interview with the presenter.
The footage led to so much confusion because the audio wasn’t very audible in the middle. The toss could be a deciding factor on a certain day, especially in T20 cricket with the rain threat looming large on the game. However, Sri Lanka Cricket has made it clear that their loss had nothing to do with any mix up at the toss. Despite the clarification, people are not convinced and think that SLC is trying to appease foreign referees and presenters, and even BCCI.
