SLC tries to clarify the toss controversy, Twitterati not impressed

The official Twitter handle of Sri Lanka cricket has made an attempt to clarify the doubts over the toss during the one off T20I game between Sri Lanka and India, which took place in Colombo. SLC tweeted a video of the incident and backed the match referee.

The match ended in a one-sided contest without much thrill. But there was a lot of fire at the end of the game. India clinched a comfortable victory by 7 wickets after Manish Pandey scored his maiden fifty and remained unbeaten. Indian skipper Virat Kohli too, played a good hand of 54-ball 82, ending the series on a high.

Confusion at the toss

But a controversy smoked around the air after it was shown that Sri Lankan skipper Upul Tharanga had actually won the toss, and not Kohli. Tharanga spun the coin, while Kohli called for ‘heads’. Match referee Andy Pycroft didn’t waste much time and gestured towards Kohli. In the video, it can be clearly seen that the match referee wanted to stop Kartik and correct the call, but he didn’t, as the commentator invited Kohli to talk about his decision.

SLC defends match referee

However, the social media was in no mood to agree with Sri Lanka’s rescue act. “#SLvInd T20I: Match Referee Andy PYCROFT called it correctly – “Heads India”, SLC wrote on twitter. Many said that SLC were under pressure to put this clarification, as BCCI wasn’t happy with all the talks regarding the toss.

Twitteratis were not impressed, while many Sri Lankan fans claimed that the outcome of the game could have been different, had the home team won the toss. Sri Lanka made 170, after a poor start that saw the team getting restricted to 46/2. India, on the other hand, had no trouble batting second. They clinched the game with four balls to spare.
