SMAT20: Tushar Deshpande to feature in Mumbai's next match despite his mother's demise

Mumbai cricketer Tushar Deshpande was stuck with the worst news in the wee hours on Tuesday. His mother passed away at Fortis Hospital in Mulund after battling with the ovarian cancer for almost two years. Tushar was with the team preparing for the Super League phase of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But due to his mother’s demise, very few would’ve expected Tushar to be with the squad and travel to Indore where the match will be played on Friday.

However, Tushar Deshpande has shown a huge heart in this tough time and has decided to travel with the squad to Indore and start hitting the straps ahead of the all-important game. Mumbai will be facing Karnataka in the first match of the Super League round on March 8.

When asked about his decision to play, Tushar got emotional while speaking to Cricket Country and said, “Thoughts about mummy will definitely come, but my mom wanted me to play well and nothing else. If I stop right now, then there’s no point.”

Having a mother is the biggest gift

Tushar Deshpande, while opening up on his mother’s illness, mentioned that she was not talking for close to one month but insisted that only her presence used to make him feel comfortable.

“She was unable to cope up with the chemotherapy. She had already undergone 24 chemotherapy sessions and it was not agreeing with her. I was very attached to her like every son would be. For the last month, she was not talking at all. Having a mother is the biggest gift, whether she talks or not,” he added.

The 23-year-old fast bowler will now be keen on dedicating a scintillating performance for his mother in the upcoming game against Karnataka.
