Stylish left-hander Smriti Mandhana is gaining popularity amongst cricket fans in India after her impressive outings with the bat in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup. The Mumbaikar has quickly become the heart rob of fans back home by scoring consistently in the competition.
The 20-year old started the campaign with a rollicking knock of 90 and followed it up with an unbeaten century (106*) in the next game against West Indies at Taunton. These two stupendous knocks were enough to create waves on social media about her talent and her good looks Smriti helped India win their first four games on the bounce though she couldn’t contribute much in the remaining two games. As a result, India stands a great chance of progressing ahead in the tournament.
A group which promotes women’s sports posted an interesting story on their Twitter handle. It involved an incident where a 10-year old girl wanted to customise an Indian team jersey. She stunned everyone present in the store by asking the staff to write “Mandhana” at the back of the jersey. Not many fans, girls and boys included, get the name of a woman cricketer imprinted on their jerseys.
